True Form:
Human Form:
Appearance:
In her usual human guise, Vivian appears as a girl assumedly in about her mid-twenties who is 5’8” tall and about 175lbs; having rather curvy proportions despite having a slim waist – even in this form, her succubus nature is not so subtle. She has light blond hair similar in hue to beige that extends to her neck in a plume of curls that frame her face, and has light green eyes which seem to have somewhat oversized irises. Although her fashion tastes are quite eclectic, while trying to be formal for the Magician’s Guild’s sake she generally wears a beige blazer, white business shirt and black skirt alongside black knee-high socks and brown dress shoes in at least an attempt at appearing professional as per the Guild’s scholarly dress code – however, the skirt’s questionable length and blazer’s questionable tightness make her teasing nature about as subtle as usual. She also usually wears a pink ribbon on her head, which seems to be something of a sentimental matter to her given her insistence on its presence and neatness.
In her true form, Vivian is 6’2” tall and weighs about 205lbs; and her succubi nature is utterly blatant – bull-like horns, bat-styled wings, a questionable tail, runic tattoos; the works. Even without the inhuman traits, though; her facial features betray her succubus nature – her crimson eyes seem to always have an unnatural shine to them even in the dark, and she has violet hair that extends down to her waist in a neat but impressive plume, alongside pointed ears like an elf’s. Although her clothing in her succubus form is as varied as her human form, she often tends to wear a ‘traditional’ design when she can get away with it; made up of an odd body harness alongside a pair of violet stockings matching her hair, as well as a purple mantle with a gold lining she wears beneath her impressive hair.
Personality:
Ever a free spirit, it’s a surprise Vivian has ever settled down to work for the Magician’s Guild – she can hardly stand taking orders from anyone, and cares little for loyalties and ambitions beyond her own. Often lazy and always selfish, she places herself and the few souls she does like above anything else; regardless of complaints and further work placed on her back. That said, when she does get down to business (particularly if it’s for her own sake) she always does her best to do a proper job and often goes beyond any expectations… for better or worse; and often for her own reasons instead of any sort of consideration of her superiors. Perhaps the worst thing anyone above her can do is try to lecture her or give her advice; as it will fall on utterly deaf ears… and probably earn them a prank or the like should they try and earn her aid ever again.
Despite her bad habits, Vivian is at least friendly towards her allies and particularly has a soft spot towards the meek and cute; acting rather hypocritically to her attitude towards superiors as she keeps an eye out for her less experienced friends and compatriots and often litters unrequested aid and advice along their path. She always acts on what she finds interesting, and this typically means messing with anyone she finds interesting – usually by way of teasing or domineering. There’s nothing Vivian likes more than getting her way… especially if she gets to lord herself over someone in the process.
However, although she is certainly proud and definitely aims to win at anything she can; conflict isn’t really something Vivian aims for – particularly violence. She still enjoys a good fight and rivalries are always welcome, but in general she would rather spend her time indulging in luxuries or messing with someone she likes. After all, a succubus relishes their relationships above anything else… although admittedly Vivian isn’t always quite as up to date with human cultures as she might try and seem; often making missteps in her judgement of the modern world. Unsurprisingly, this isn’t so good for a succubus who can be outright hurt by rejection…
Although she generally lacks the seductive attitude attributed to succubus, Vivian is certainly affected by her supernatural race’s intricacies – her lifestyle and attitude changes noticeably based on how much Od she currently has; seeing as it’s basically how she keeps her life together. At moderate amounts, she is her ‘usual self’, certainly a tease but not particularly dangerous; she is usually left on the lower end of this state as she doesn’t get many excuses around town to drain people. However, when she is particularly lacking in Od she becomes quite dangerous; leaning towards preying on anyone unlucky enough to earn her interest or spite while dropping her usual idle politeness for favour of surly maliciousness – although she is able to restrain herself to a decent degree, if given an excuse to drain someone she will certainly take it. Perhaps more notable in this state, however; she tends to struggle with her form; seeming to suffer from mild blindness and deafness as her lack of Od gets more severe. While at high amounts of Od, however; she takes on the opposite change; gaining a curious sense of class and pride akin to a noblewoman.
In terms of hobbies, Vivian is a bit of a fashion lover and often drags others into her own ideas of what looks good; which is a bit of a concern given her often bizarre tastes in the field. Otherwise, though; she is admittedly a bit of a shut-in and makes little effort to hide the fact – she can often be found burying herself in video games and comics rather than going out; a bit of a mockery of the succubus’ ideal lifestyle… however, it could be said that it’s her own way of finding companionship. She has a dream of being an iconic succubus femme fatale as popularised in stories, but typically her geeky hobbies and her habit of getting overly invested in her role shoot this look in the foot; though she really does her absolute best to try and reach her ideal. Perhaps she’s the first ever succubus try hard?
History:
Vivian’s origins are about as vague as any other succubus; at least in terms of her birth or creation – whether she doesn’t know herself or is just being deliberately unclear like the rest of her kind is unknown. However, unlike others she is fairly open about the rest of her history. Her life began under the tutelage of a Lilim; one of the legends of the succubus race… albeit one who rather betrayed their grandiose reputation. Admittedly, perhaps the same could be said of any actual Lilim or just any legend; as while just as dangerous and admirable as her title might imply her eccentricities are as prevalent in Vivian as they were in herself. A keen explorer and lover of human culture more akin to an adventurer than one of the seductive sorcerers or masterminds Lilim were known for; she brought up Vivian as her protégé of sorts.
While this sort of dedicated upbringing is especially rare for a pure succubus given the flighty nature of their race, Vivian was not given exceptionally special treatment – a lot of her time was spent pouring over her mentor’s souvenirs and notes while the latter was out on her adventures once more. But, she was thankfully always in good hands; and the time she did get to spend with her ‘mother’ is time that Vivian still cherishes today. She spent at least a decade alongside the traveller, and her ambitions quickly became to be just like her hero rather than being caught up with the spirit of rebellion that is prevalent amidst daemons in the modern era.
But, such golden days ended as whimsically as they were spent – the Lilim just disappeared one day. Vivian would never admit it now, but while she had always expected it, it broke her young heart. She was at least left with surprising care for her kind; a farewell note, a letter of recommendation to the Magician’s Guild, and her mentor’s ‘grimoire’. Determined to both live up to her role model’s expectations and to someday become such a grandiose Lilim herself; the self-titled ‘Vivian Valentine’, junior femme fatale, moved on from her loss. For a few years, she tried to act on her own as a succubus similar to her mentor; but ended up more like a travelling petty thief and pest due to her lack of experience; before finally admitting to her faults and signing up for the Magician’s Guild as was expected in the first place courtesy of the letter of recommendation – despite her distaste for orders and work.
Unsurprisingly, while the recommendation given by one of the Lilim’s friends in the Guild got Vivian into the entrance course, she wasn’t quite welcomed like most of the other students – while Mystic Kind had begun to be a more expected minority amongst the students, having a succubus around certainly put people on edge. On one hand, many of the professors were intent on learning about her infernal magic and were especially intrigued by her supposed ‘grimoire’; but on the other hand most weren’t too overjoyed about having a supposedly man-eating sex demon haunting about them. Suffice to say, despite her earlier confidence Vivian began to end up more and more isolated from her colleagues; beginning to just bury herself in escapism – in her case, hobbies of video games and comics that she’d fostered since she was young courtesy of her time alone with whatever her whimsical parent decided to leave about.
While sulking in this manner over her attempts to keep up to her hero’s exploits, Vivian ended up bonding with a fellow student with similar troubles with reality: Camille, a human boy who’d been scouted for supernatural potential. In the end, Vivian scraped a passing grade despite her sulking, perhaps only due to the community’s interest in her infernal magic; while her seemingly only friend was left unable to keep up and dropped out. Despite this, Vivian kept the boy close-by and certainly retained their friendship; for a succubus, that affection and company was far more important than any kind of success in academics.
Intent on becoming an Enforcer rather than an actual academic in the Guild, Vivian soon began to struggle against the inevitable bias against her race – concerns over having a succubus as a representative for a human-centred art was inevitable; especially since she’d been pulled in to begin with for her type of magic rather than its practical applications. However, a guiding hand soon pulled the succubus into the position as one of her mentor’s old comrades pulled a number of strings to get her on track again; but intended on the girl returning the favour in her own way. In return for his aid, she was to take care of some of his estate – a tiny, private bar in particular. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, she accepted without a thought… and without a lick of competence in the matter of actually taking care of any kind of occupation.
Despite the bar only requiring a day or two of work a week and having only a small patronage made mostly of the local magical community, as it was instead mostly being used for private meetings; Vivian still struggled to manifest the motivation or skills to hold things together. Thankfully, though; she had a trump card in the matter of all things menial; dragging Camille in to work the job instead as a ‘favour’; leaving the succubus to freeload off both the improvised home the duo made on the second floor and her unfortunate compatriot’s work. To her credit, she at least acts as waitress on occasion, and admittedly her efforts at being a ‘proper’ succubus has garnered the bar a bit more attention… but on the other hand, her competence in the matter is laughable at best. For the most part she just bums around her home of sorts, but she does at least perform the occasional job as an enforcer for whoever is willing to pay.
STATISTICS
Mana: E (20 Units) – Although she relishes her supernatural talents, Vivian is still lacking in magical potential.
Strength: E – Vivian’s frame is not quite… designed for strength, and her lazy attitude hasn’t done her too much good. But, she still has superhuman potential…
Endurance: F – Though she often seems lacking in endurance given her somewhat selfish and entitled nature, this is often a façade – her stamina can keep up with most trained humans.
Agility: E – As per her kind’s reputation, Vivian is quite a speedy customer; and is especially impressive when it comes to her potential in contortion and flexibility.
LOADOUT
Arma Maga:
Name: Missile Mariage
Rank: E
Description: A rather bizarre and modern Arma Maga; the Mariage is an old-fashioned breech-loading pistol, looking a bit like a comically oversized revolver albeit with only a one-bullet chamber instead of six. Similar in size to a flintlock pistol, it’s rather more noticeable for the fact that it is bright pink with a white bow tied around the back of the barrel. Unsurprisingly, given its size the Arma Maga requires a particularly large and specialised bullet, alongside a mana injection. Given she has to have them specially crafted, Vivian has quite the stockpile at home; but only brings three or so along with her on missions – this Arma Maga is not exactly the most practical of tools.
When used, the Arma Maga must be loaded with a bullet that has been injected with mana immediately beforehand; else the bullet will simply shatter; using five units of Vivian’s mana. As one would imagine given its look and loading mechanism, the Mariage is anything but accurate; unlikely to hit any target beyond about fifteen metres. When it does hit, though; the bullet causes the victim to become utterly infatuated with the gunman. While this would seem to be a major utility for a succubus given it leaves the soul like putty in their hands, it comes with the threat that when they recover from the hypnosis of sorts they will inevitably reject them (well, in most cases); which can be a particularly painful experience for any member of the race given their reliance on affections. The effect also only lasts about ten minutes, and the gunshot comes with a loud crack, so it couldn’t possibly be used as a tool for stealth. If the target has Mental Strength of E rank or higher, the effect can be resisted but only as long as the victim continually focusses on it or purges the effect using an anti-magical ability.
Equipment:
Name: Bile Vials
Rank: E
Description: A set of vials of Vivian’s bile types that she carries with her in her human form in order to compensate for her inability to produce them naturally in that state. She typically carries six on her person when she’s on a job. She usually recollects them on a daily basis, but as her transformation back to succubus from human takes an hour she can often be late in doing so if she ends up preoccupied on the field or otherwise. The test tube-like vials are about 10cm long and carry about 9ml.
Name: Thieves’ Tools
Rank: E
Description: A small make-up case containing handful of basic tools for any budding thief; but due to Vivian’s lack of specialisation they are a bit unimpressive. Lock picking tools, a USB hard drive with some basic hacking programs and room to store any juicy discoveries, some odd tools for the occasional bit of mechanic business should a heavier hand be required than a lock pick… and, as much as Vivian would typically hate to admit it given her insistence on ‘natural style’, a small stick of lip stick in case she needs to refresh the classic femme fatale flourish.
Name: Petit Grimoire Noir
Rank: N/A
Description: A grimoire cobbled together from spare notes and torn out pages from all kinds of sources; more like a file or a scrapbook than any kind of family artefact. While its innards are a mess, the grimoire’s black leather cover is of utmost quality. Given to Vivian as a parting gift from her Lilim ‘parent’ and mentor, it is a mix of notes on magic by the legendary succubus… unfortunately, it is predominantly made up by her scribbled notes akin to a diary; predominantly on the subject of potential lovers and menial events akin to a high schooler’s diary… except over at least a century. Suffice to say, while certainly an incredible record of the powers and views of a nigh-impossible to study race; the mix of meaningless notes and the painfully flowery handwriting make it practically worthless as an academic material. However, Vivian still holds it close to her heart, and seems to have at least learnt some things from it… though even she is struggling to get through it all.
CAPABILITIES
Weaknesses:
Name: Holiness
Description: Seeing or being in the close proximity of holy symbols or places will repel and paralyse succubi and incubi.
Name: Heartbreak
Description: Rejection or heartbreak will severely mentally and emotionally stress succubi and incubi, to the point of being fatal in serious cases. Although she has some experience with this due to her mentor’s abandonment of her and her treatment by the Magician’s Guild’s student body; Vivian has yet to deal with having a close friend leave her, which would certainly make her suffer.
Name: Alcohol
Description: Succubi and incubi have a terribly low tolerance to alcohol, and suffer from horrendous hangovers. Vivian’s drunken habits tend to vary depending on the choice of drink; but they typically end up as acting either rather meek and childish or obnoxiously lewd and stupid.
Name: Anti-Demonic Magic
Description: Being demons, succubi and incubi are vulnerable to holy and otherwise anti-demon magic and enchantments.
Name: Autophobia
Description: Being a race centred around their relationships with others, succubi and incubi are instinctively terrified of isolation.
Skills:
Name: Unarmed Melee (Systema)
Description: Although she thinks firearms look a lot cooler; Vivian opts for using martial arts instead since she has little interest in lethality – plus, as succubus her ability to drain life certainly works well with close-quarters. Admittedly, her study of the Russian martial art of Systema is quite basic; however it suits her quite well as it includes a focus on impressive takedown moves, fitting her self-centred manner. Her theory is very lacking and her poor meditative practices make her struggle with dealing with other martial artists, but the style’s aggressive attacks can let her overwhelm untrained targets; and the joint-locking and takedown techniques leave opponents open to magical techniques or her life-draining.
Rank: E
Name: Magical Knowledge (Infernal)
Description: The skill all magicians have, their knowledge of magic. This may range from all sorts of styles of magic imagined. Vivian’s style is rather unique to her race given its demonic origins, however her approach is more akin to that of conventional witchcraft courtesy of her learnings in the Magician’s Guild. Admittedly, though; she isn’t the most dedicated to her studies; making her capacity to handle the magic rather less than admirable.
Rank: E
Name: Stealth
Description: The capacity to be clandestine. To reach a goal or destination without anyone noticing. The skill to lower what presence the body may possess. A required skill for thieves, infiltrators, and assassins. Despite her attention-seeking personality, Vivian is a quite capable sneak as she is naturally gifted in acting under the radar. While not quite able to hide in plain sight or the like, subtle stalking and movement is definitely up her alley – in particular, her flight offers her a lot of hiding places that no human and most supernatural would never bother to check.
Rank: E
Abilities:
Name: Dreamwalking
Description: A common practice among succubi and incubi is the act of dreamwalking; the ability to see and manipulate the dreams of others. This act is similar to a ritual, but does not interact with mana; instead essentially allowing the being to astrally project themselves into another person’s consciousness as they sleep, leaving their own body similarly defenceless. This will lull the target into a deeper and longer sleep and a mental state akin to lucid dreaming, but they can still be shaken awake by conventional means and will still wake up eventually regardless. In order to use this ability they must be in possession of something linked to their target (an article of clothing, a clump of hair, a familiar) or within ten metres of them.
At D rank, Vivian is able to represent herself in the dream and interact with the dream’s owner; typically making a big show of herself and using all kinds of outlandish outfits as she plays along with the dream’s premise. She usually just uses the ability to entertain herself, but isn’t above exploiting it to get a read on people while they’re in such a vulnerable state.
Rank: D
Name: Seduction
Description: The natural craft of succubi among other supernatural beings; Vivian is capable of a variant of hypnosis using her enchanting wiles. With this ability she is able to lull others off-guard and into a state very susceptible to suggestion with the proper application of her looks and flirtations with comparative ease, and occasionally lure more guarded souls into dropping their alertness for her sake. However, people already in conflict or otherwise highly alert make for troublesome targets for her; and anyone especially intent on ignoring or avoiding her wiles will usually be a brick wall for her… assuming they don’t give her a way in.
While under this form of hypnosis, Vivian can convince her victim to tell her secrets or do things via suggestion alongside her continued wiles; although anything that clashes too much with her persona will break the charm. This ability can be resisted through the above straight-forward means or through Mental Strength E and higher, but otherwise will at least unsettle the victim when applied especially directly.
Rank: E
Name: Life Draining
Description: Perhaps the iconic ability of succubi, this capacity thankfully appears in a rather less controversial state in Vivian – she can use her tail to directly suck her victim’s life force through their skin through its concerning orifice. Through this method is very noticeable it is very fast, nary a minute for the victim to recognise the drain – assuming the horrible tail mouth wasn’t enough. It is very rare for Vivian to drain someone to any sort of severe state through this ability, but it is certainly possible. Using the body contact method, it would take four hours to drain a normal human to unconsciousness; while the tail method would take just fifteen minutes.
All this having been said, Vivian is not really a big fan of the whole ‘draining people to death’ deal that succubi are known for, and thus generally just uses her body-contact method as it is a lot more slow and gentle… although admittedly she is not so fussed about consent, often just partially draining people she is taking care of medically or even just unaware allies; which has gotten her quite the poor reputation. That being said, she could also just practically consume her choice in prey with her tail given its elastic nature and life-draining efficiency, but she is hardly that primitive… plus, it’d be uncomfortable for her as well as her victim!
For each post Vivian can drain someone using her tail she generates one unit of Mana in return for taking one unit of their Mana, Od or Ki; as well as being able to gradually heal her own wounds with the vitality drained. Should this effect go until they run out of their kind of unit, it will begin a physical toll on them; as it drains their raw vitality - however, it is rare and rather arduous for it to get to this point without them being helpless in the first place.
Rank: E
Name: Flight
Description: As would be implied by her wings, Vivian is capable of flight; predominantly courtesy of her supernatural nature rather than any kind of realistic physics. While she is not a superb flier, she is capable of essentially mimicking a bird’s finesse in the air – however, due to her frame being far from specialised for flight she lacks the endurance to fly beyond an hour straight without relying on gliding, and cannot maintain a height of over 150 metres into the air due to the disruption of wind at that point. That being said, she is a very flexible and dextrous flier if not a long-distance capable one, using quick bouts of flight indoors to supplement her agility.
Rank: E
Name: Magical Manipulation
Description: The ability to cast Magic. One must be born to use it. With this ability, the world can be manipulated to the degree of one's knowledge and affinity in Magic. This ability ranks up with one's own Mana Statistic. All Magicians must have this ability or they cannot cast anything. That said, they must have this ranked up to at least same rank of the desired spell they wish to cast.
Rank: E
Spells/Techniques:
Name: Dommage Bile
Description: Putting her questionable lineage to work, Vivian is able to expel a viscous pink slime from her tail’s opening; being capable of ‘firing’ it up to ranges of up to 10 metres in a short stream or a compressed burst. The goo itself is harmless, but is particularly sticky and difficult to shake off – plus, it’s pretty awful to get pink organic goop stuck to you. Far more awful though is the fact that it has a psychological effect based on its magical properties that forces a feeling of guilt and shame on the victim – although it’s not really as practical in the midst of combat, it can certainly make someone feel terrible when they’re otherwise calm. Thankfully the effect is cut off if it is simply shaken off, but even then it has probably already had some effect.
Although this effect is especially unpleasant, it can be ignored with Mental Strength or Bravery at E rank or higher; and once the slime is removed it the feeling wears off as soon as the victim attempt to improve their state. The mucus swiftly biodegrades after only fifteen minutes, making it a terrible long-term solution for anything and also thankfully making it relatively harmless if ingested in whatever way. During combat, the mucus will generally stick for 5 posts, but can be shaken off early if the victim puts serious effort into removing it or can otherwise remove it.
Rank: E
Unit Cost: 4 Mana
Type: Succubus Arts
Name: Hellfire
Incantation: C’est heure pour un peu de punition!
Description: Generating a deep purple fireball of infernal fire, this is a rather simple variation of the hellfire used by a variety of demonic and occult beings. Vivian can then either just toss the baseball-to-basketball-sized fireball with explosive effects, or simply shove it straight onto her target – she is unaffected by the flames due to her infernal nature. The fire is very short-lived as it quickly fizzles out without fuel, but it does so because it burns quicker and hotter than regular flames.
However, these fireballs’ actual purpose is not as a direct weapon – instead, Vivian’s Hellfire can ignite her bile. Dommage Bile burns like napalm; as the sticky substance does not lose its adhesion as it burns and takes a decent while to burn in the first place; about six minutes for one expulsion of it, although it can be layered to add more fuel. While the bile is lit, Hellfire will last as many posts as the bile has remaining; and gives Hellfire a + modifier to its damage when the bile is used as fuel.
Rank: E
Unit Cost: 4 Mana
Type: Infernal Magic
Name: Human Disguise
Incantation:
J'irais jusqu'au bout du monde,
Je me ferais teindre en blonde;
Si tu me le demandais…
Je renierais ma patrie,
Je renierais mes amis;
Si tu me le demandais…
Description: Given how blatantly demonic her normal form is, it is only natural that Vivian has developed some kind of human form to hide herself away. Unlike many supernatural beings, however; Vivian is especially restricted by her human form and finds changing into it a very complicated magical process, relying on an hour-long meditative ritual in order to perform the transformation to human form form. To her credit, she is capable of altering her human form; however developing one that is different to her ‘usual’ one takes a ritual that takes several hours; depending on how different it is to her typical human form, typically four to six. Should it be interrupted, the ritual will cancel entirely and immediately. On the other hand, Vivian can immediately remove the form; tearing off the illusion easily given it is a self-made restrictive magic rather than a limiting spell placed by something or someone else.
While in human form, Vivian’s supernatural nature is heavily dampened but can still be detected with specialised spells; however she is unable to use any of her magical or supernatural abilities except Hellfire and Seduction. Similarly, her physical statistics are also lowered to the following:
Strength: F
Endurance: F
Agility: F
Rank: E
Unit Cost: 6 Mana
Type: Infernal Magic
